Sebastian works as a restaurant pianist, but he can not play his own songs. His great dream is an own jazzclub. Mia also has great dreams, namely being an actress. She fidgets from auditions to auditions with little success. She earned her money as a waitress in the Warner Brothers area. When Mia's car got towed away after a party, she walked and listened to Sebastian's music. She goes into the restaurant and is enchanted by him. A nice homage to classic musical films with a melancholic power that glorifies to the end, dreaming, what "could-have-been". By not being a happy-end movie, the film loses its kitschiness and gives gets a realistic touch. The film also has its 5 minutes: In the scene as Mia sings while auditioning. This scene is quite big and the film deserves a lot of respect. Successful and beautiful. The cinematography is absolutely stunning. And Emma Stone plays adorable.

Sebastian arbeitet als  Restaurant-Pianist, wo er jedoch nicht seine eigenen Stücke spielen kann. Sein großer Traum ist ein eigener Jazzclub. Er lebt in einer heruntergekommenen Bude in Los Angeles. Mia hat auch große Träume, nämlich Schauspielerin zu werden. Sie hangelt sich von Vorsprechen zu Vorsprechen mit wenig Erfolg. Ihr Geld verdient sie als Kellnerin im Warner Brothers Gelände. Als Mia's Auto nach einer Party abgeschleppt wurde, läuft sie zu Fuß und  hört Sebastians Musik . Sie geht in das Lokal und ist von ihm verzaubert. Er ignoriert sie aber, sauer, dass er gerade gefeuert wurde.  Nach und nach finden beide zueinander und es entwickelt sich eine romantische Beziehung. Immer wieder durchzogen von Musicaleinlagen....

Eine nette Hommage an klassische Musicalfilme mit einer melancholischen Kraft, die zum Ende hin verträumt glorifiziert, was sein-hätte-können. Dadurch, dass es kein Happy-End-Film ist, wird dem Film seine Kitschigkeit genommen und er erhält eine realistische Note. Der Film hat auch seine 5 Minuten: In der Szene als Mia beim Vorsprechen über ihre Tante singt. Diese Szene ist ganz groß und der Film verdient einhellig sehr viel Respekt. Gelungen und schön.  Die Kameraführung ist absolut bewundernswert. Und Emma Stone spielt entzückend.
