Mildred Hayes is bitter and desperate. She buys three billboards for a year, with prints about asking the local police to act. The murderer of her daughter was not captured. The police in Ebbing is more or less capable of their work. A local scandal develops around Mildred, which does not receive popular approval. As the television also plays along, the police sees themselve forced to investigate again ...

What is sold here as a black comedy, turns out to be more like a drama. A very successful portrait of a bitter woman and her vendetta. Greatly staged scenes line up here one after the other and one marvels, to what extent the development around the personalities proceeds and how unpredictably the protagonists act. Must see. Worthy of an oscar. Frances McDormand upstages everyone. Brilliant performance!

 Mildred Hayes ist verbittert und verzweifelt. Sie kauft für ein Jahr drei Werbeplakate, auf denen Sie die örtliche Polizei zum Handeln auffordert. Der  Mörder ihrer Tochter wurde nicht gefangen genommen.  Die Polizisten der Kleinstadt Ebbing sind mehr oder weniger fähig für ihre Arbeit.  Es entwickelt sich ein örtlicher Skandal um Mildred, die von der Bevölkerung keinen Zuspruch erhält. Als auch das Fernsehen mitspielt, sieht sich die Polizei gezwungen nun wieder zu ermitteln...

Was hier als schwarze Komödie verkauft wird, entpuppt sich mir eher als Drama. Ein sehr gelungenes Porträit einer verbitterten Frau und ihren Rachefeldzug. Großartig inszenierte Szenen reihen sich hier hintereinander und man staunt, inwieweit die Entwicklung um die Persönlichkeiten vonstatten geht und  wie unvorhersehbar agiert wird.  Unbedingt anschauen. Oscarverdächtig. Frances McDormand spielt jeden an die Wand. Brilliante Performance!

Downsizing

Paul is a physiotherapist and married to Audrey. Humanity is already suffering from overpopulation. A Norwegian scientist succeeds a highlight. He can shrink people as small as a hand. In Norway starts the first project of the "little people". Thou a small person consumes far less, the basic income multiplies more than ten times. Paul is excited about this idea and persuades his wife. They decide to shrink. But then the incomprehensible happens ....

The film evolves into a homage to humanity. I was particularly pleased that the Asian woman wears the second half of the film wonderfully and becomes the main protagonist, even though she is not perfect. Unfortunately, the film is a bit skewed towards the end. 

Paul ist Physiotherapeut und mit Audrey verheiratet. Die Menschheit leidet bereits unter Überbevölkerung. Ein norwegischer Wissenschaftler gelingt der Clou. Er kann Menschen so klein schrumpfen wie eine Hand. In Norwegen startet das erste Projekt der "kleinen Menschen". Dadurch, dass ein kleiner Mensch weit weniger verbraucht, vermehrt sich das Grundeinkommen auf mehr als das Zehnfache. Paul ist begeistert von dieser Idee und überredet seine Frau. Sie entscheiden sich, sich schrumpfen zu lassen. Doch dann passiert das Unfassbare....

 Der Film entwickelt sich  zu einer Hommage an die Menschlichkeit.  Mich hat besonders erfreut, dass die Asiatin die zweite Hälfte des Filmes wunderbar trägt und Hauptprotagonist wird, obwohl sie eben nicht perfekt ist. Leider wird der Film zum Ende hin etwas schräg.

Ben makes an apprenticeship as a social worker and now looks after Trevor, a youngster sitting in a wheelchair. Since Trevor's everyday life is always the same and he rarely leaves the house, the two men decide to make a road trip to the places Trevor would like to see. On the way they make friends with two women ....

A solid story and good dialogue bring a decent foundation to this road movie. Here nothing is glossed over unnecessarily and the characters are multi-faceted and have a good interaction. Paul Rudd is a compelling actor. Also Selena Gomez with her deep voice plays very cool.

Ben lässt sich als Sozialarbeiter ausbilden und betreut nun Trevor, einen Jugendlichen der im Rollstuhl sitzt. Da Trevors Alltag aus immer den Gleichen Dingen besteht und er kaum verreist, beschließen die zwei Männer einen Roadtrip zu machen, zu den Orten, die Trevor gerne mal sehen möchte. Dabei freunden Sie sich mit zwei Frauen an....

Eine solide Geschichte und  gute Dialoge bringen diesem Roadmovie eine  anständige Grundlage.  Hier wird nichts unnötig beschönigt und die Charaktere sind facettenreich und haben ein gutes Zusammenspiel. Paul Rudd ist ein überzeugender Schauspieler. Auch Selena Gomez mit ihrer tiefen Stimme spielt sehr cool.

When it becomes known that her visa expires and she has to return to Canada, she promptly decides to marry her assistant Andrew. With little empathy she forces him to make her a wife. Together they visit his relatives in Alaska. Especially for Margaret, this is an adventure as she experiences after a long time what affection and love means ...

Successful romance with funny elements. But not over-the-top gags. This makes the story believable. Some precious twists make the movie constantly exciting. A good date movie. And an interesting character study. Sandra Bullock shines here. She carries the full movie and she does it with flying colors.

Die Lektorin Margaret Tate  führt einen Bürokomplex auf ihre eigene dominante und  schikanierende Weise. Als bekannt wird, dass ihr Visum abläuft und sie zurück nach Canada muss, entscheidet sie prompt ihren Assistenten Andrew zu heiraten. Mit wenig Empathie  zwingt sie ihn, sie zur Frau zu machen. Gemeinsam besuchen sie seine Verwandschaft in Alaska. Besonders für Margaret wird dies zu einem Abenteuer, da sie zum ersten Mal wieder erfährt, was Zuneigung und Liebe bedeutet...

Gelungene Romanze mit komischen Elementen. Aber nicht over-the-top-Gags. Dies macht die Geschichte glaubhaft. Einige kostbare Wendungen machen den Film konstant spannend. Ein guter Date-Movie.  Und eine  interessante Charakterstudie. Sandra Bullock  brilliert hier. Sie trägt den kompletten Film und dies tut sie mit Bravour.

The Bellas are now out of college. They are not really happy in their jobs. So it's good that they reunite and act together. They also travel to Spain and sing in front of the soldiers, but another group makes them competition ...

Far-fetched story. No laughter really ignites. Mediocre songs, nothing new, everything heard before. Stupid figures telling stupid stuff. No impressive acting performance. Anna Kendrick sings well, but does not convince in her role. No elaborated characters. Very bad movie.

Die Bellas sind nun raus aus dem College. In ihren Jobs sind sie nicht wirklich glücklich. Da fügt es sich gut, dass sie sich wieder vereinigen und zusammen auftreten.  Sie reisen auch nach Spanien und singen vor den Soldaten, doch eine andere Gruppe macht Ihnen Konkurrenz...

Bei den Haaren herbeigezogene Story. Kein Lacher zündet wirklich. Mittelmäßige Songs, nichts neues, alles schon einmal gehört. Dämliche Figuren, die dämliches Zeug erzählen. Keine  beeindruckende Schauspielerische Leistung. Anna Kendrick singt gut, überzeugt aber nicht in ihrer Rolle.  Keine ausgearbeiteten Charaktere. Sehr schlechter Film.
