The old lady Harriet Lauler is domineering and controlling. Everything around her must dance to her nose. One evening she reads obituaries and comes up with the idea that she wants to have such a great obituary. She hires Anne Sherman, who is specialized in obituaries. But it is a futile undertaking to give this vixen a good obituary. Then Harriet comes up with an idea ...

 It is about mind change of an elderly person by new acquaintances. Shirley MacLaine upstages everyone around her. But the story is rather callowly and develops into a trivial "Rührschinken". And given the fact that one can be happy to have a job in the States, it is more than dumb, that Anne announces her job at the end. However, a predictable plot and sentimental arrangements allow this film to settle in the shallow water of mediocre Sunday evening films. But there is a scene that stands out and that is when Anne with Harriet and the godchild are going to Harriet's old company and do something not quite legal.

Die alte Dame Harriet Lauler ist herrschsüchtig und kontrollsüchtig. Alles um sie herum muss nach ihrer Nase tanzen. Eines Abends liest sie Nachrufe und kommt auf die Idee, dass sie auch so einen tollen Nachruf haben möchte. Sie engagiert dafür Anne Sherman, welche auf Nachrufe spezialisiert ist. Doch es stellt sich als  aussichtsloses Unterfangen dar, diesem Drachen einen guten Nachruf zu verschaffen. Da kommt Harriet auf eine Idee...

Es geht um  Wesensveränderung bei alten Leuten durch neue Bekanntschaften. Shirley MacLaine  spielt jeden an die Wand. Doch die Story ist eher unausgegoren und  entwickelt sich zu einem trivialen Rührschinken. Und in Anbetracht der Tatsache, dass  man froh sein kann, einen Job in den Staaten zu haben, ist es mehr als einfältig, dass Anne ihren Job  am Ende kündigt. Wie auch immer, ein vorhersehbarer Plot  und  sentimentale Arrangements lassen  diesen Film im seichten Fahrwasser mittelmäßiger Sonntagabendfilme ansiedeln. Aber eine Szene gibt es, die hervorsticht und dass ist die, als Anne mit Harriet und Patenkind bei Harriets alter Firma vorbeischauen und  eine nicht ganz legale  Aktion über die Bühne bringen.
